Engineering - Tax Map / GIS

The Tax Map / GIS Department is responsible for providing a map to assist the County Auditor in preparing taxes. Ohio law mandates that the County Engineer create and organize the map of his/her community. This tax map must be updated on a daily basis to reflect changes in property ownership. This responsibility entails creating and maintaining a detailed inventory of every parcel of land in the county. A map must be drawn for every parcel of property in the county and this map must be to scale. The County Auditor's office uses this map as its official record for property tax purposes.

To establish the county's mapping system, all information from various public offices must be utilized -- recorded deeds, subdivision plats, street dedications, vacations, annexations, road records, etc. Tax Map is using GIS technology to update and maintain the county's parcel information as well as centerline mileage, addresses, and infrastructure maintained by the Engineer's Office. The tax map is available through an interactive webmap application which can be accessed here via the BCEO web site.

The Tax Map Department also approves legal descriptions prepared for the purpose of transferring property, updates appropriate tax maps for each property transfer, assists the public with locating property and verifying ownership, and assigns all new addresses in unincorporated areas.

On October 5, 2015, Tax Map relocated its office from the County Administration Building in downtown Hamilton to the Butler County Engineer's Office on Route 4 next to the fairgrounds. Process to Get Legal Descriptions Pre-Approved

Documents shall only be submitted in PDF format. The Tax Map Office will stamp either APPROVED or NOT APPROVED with comments and will reply via email. All submittals shall be sent to the following email address: taxmapreview@bceo.org.

After receiving the APPROVED legal description from the Tax Map Office, the customer will please make a color print of the legal description showing the BCEO colored stamp, attach it to the deed, and bring the color print of the APPROVED legal description to the Auditor's Conveyance Office upon transfer. The Auditor's Office will not accept anything but a red stamp on the legal description.
