NEW COLLECTIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT
Teamsters Local 100 and Butler County Engineer

Butler County Engineer Gregory J. Wilkens announces the ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement between the Butler County Engineer and Teamsters Local 100. The new agreement replaces the agreement that former County Engineer Dean Foster had reached with the Teamsters in June 2000, ending months of litigation over the issue.

Wilkens accomplished in just two months what the previous administration was unable to do in two years --- to reach an agreement that is consistent with other Butler County contracts and fairly compensates the employees of the BCEO.

"I believe this is an equitable agreement that is fair to our hard working employees and brings value to the taxpayers of Butler County," Wilkens said. "We've seen major progress and improved labor relations in our efforts to come to realistic terms. I want to thank the leadership of Teamsters Local 100 and the BCEO employees who participated with us in the negotiations. I'd also like to thank Butler County Personnel Director and Labor Counsel Doug Duckett who worked tirelessly on behalf of the Butler County Engineer to bring about a solid and genuine agreement."

The new contract removed numerous indefensible provisions implemented by former Engineer Foster, according to Duckett. "We modified the pay steps from four steps to six, which is more consistent with other County units," Duckett noted. "Also included is a lump sum pay settlement of four percent from January 1999, when the old contract was supposed to go into effect, to the ratification of the new contract. The union also agreed to change the pay increases from two percent every six months to three percent once a year, this July, and then July 2002."

The new contract will go into effect immediately and expires in July 2003.
