Greater Hamilton Safety Council

The Butler County Engineer's Office was presented with the Greater Hamilton Safety Council's Business Award of the Year at yesterday's annual Awards Banquet. Butler County Engineer Gregory J. Wilkens and the BCEO received the award in recognition and appreciation for outstanding dedication and contribution to the Greater Hamilton Safety Council.

"We are very proud to present this award to Greg Wilkens and the Butler County Engineer's Office," said Safety Council President Jerry Garrett, who is also a long-time BCEO employee. "The Engineer's Office has a proven reputation of service and concern for the safety of Butler County's residents."

The BCEO has been a member of the Greater Hamilton Safety Council for over 30 years. It has been involved with nearly every Safety Council division, particularly the Transportation Division, and has had three employees serve as Council presidents.

"The Engineer's Office has been instrumental in the development of the award-winning high school mock crash program and the junior high 'So You Want To Drive A Car' program," according to Wilkens. "We furnish facilities for the Safety Council's monthly meetings and seminars and have provided employees who volunteer as Driver Improvement Program instructors."

BCEO Employee Named Volunteer of Year

BCEO Finance and Human Resources Manager Jane Ragazino was also honored yesterday as the Greater Hamilton Safety Council's Volunteer of the Year. Ragazino has been active with the Safety Council since the early 1980s, having served as a member of the Home Division and a Driver Improvement Instructor for over 10 years. She is currently a member of the Safety Council's Board of Directors and annually serves on the Awards Banquet Committee.

"Congratulations to Jane for being named our volunteer of the year. She has been an important part of the Council and an outstanding advocate of community safety," Garrett said. An employee of the Engineer's Office for 24 years, Ragazino says she was inspired to join the Safety Council by other BCEO employees who were involved. She enjoys public service and giving something back to the community from which she feels she has received so much.

The Greater Hamilton Safety Council is a non-profit organization comprised of volunteers from the local community with a commitment to public safety. Council activities are focused around five divisions --- home, industrial, fire, school, and transportation.

GHSC has a long tradition of service to Butler County. Yesterday marked the Council's 58th awards banquet. The local Council was recently ranked third best in the State of Ohio among 55 councils by the Ohio Division of Safety and Hygiene.
