STREAM BANK RESTORATION PROJECT TO CLOSE ROAD
Hamilton Eaton Road Closing July 23
St. Clair Township

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that work is under way to restore a section of stream bank along Seven Mile Creek in St. Clair Township. The stream is eroding and in danger of undercutting Hamilton Eaton Road near New Miami High School if something isn't done, according to Wilkens.

"There is no present danger to motorists," he emphasized, "but it is imperative that we do something now before any further erosion compromises the roadway." Hamilton Eaton Road, also known as Seven Mile Avenue in the New Miami area, parallels Seven Mile Creek along the stream's east bank at this location. Approximately 400 feet of the embankment will be rebuilt and fortified to prevent any additional erosion.

Crews started work on the project in late June with most of the construction up to this point taking place in the stream bed and along the bank. As work moves closer to the roadway, it will be necessary to close the road beginning next Monday. All work is scheduled for completion by mid-August 2012, weather permitting.

A construction contract for the project was awarded to W.G. Stang, LLC of Hamilton which submitted a low bid of $286,803. Funding will consist of 100 percent local BCEO money.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

The stream bank restoration project will necessitate a three to four week closure of Hamilton Eaton Road (Seven Mile Avenue) beginning Monday, July 23, 2012. Location of the closing will be from approximately 900 feet north of Fox Avenue to a point approximately 650 feet south of U.S. 127. The road is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of August 13, 2012.

During this closure, local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits, but motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone. The southern entrance to New Miami High School will remain open; however, access to the northern entrance will be restricted. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour: Northbound Hamilton Eaton Road / Seven Mile Avenue traffic will detour east on Augspurger Avenue and north on U.S. 127. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closure.
