Partial Closure Begins August 20
Reily Township

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that the intersection of Stillwell Beckett Road and North Law Road is slated for an upgrade beginning next week. Crews will widen the turning radius on the northwest corner and replace a culvert pipe running under North Law, necessitating a closure of the intersection's north leg during construction.

The intersection is skewed at an angle that makes it difficult for right-turning vehicles from southbound North Law onto Stillwell Beckett to do so without crossing over into the opposing lane of traffic. This project will make the turn much easier and safer, particularly for large vehicles such as school buses.

A construction contract for the project was awarded to Rack & Ballauer Excavating Company located in the Ross / Crosby Township area which submitted a low bid of $68,476. Funding will consist of 100 percent local BCEO money.

All work is scheduled for completion by early September, weather permitting.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

North Law Road will close on the north side of the Stillwell Beckett Road intersection beginning Monday, August 20, 2012. Stillwell Beckett Road and the south leg of North Law Road will remain open during construction. The north leg is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of September 3, 2012.

During this closure, local access to North Law Road will be maintained from the north for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits, but motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour: Northbound North Law Road traffic will detour east on Stillwell Beckett Road, northwest on U.S. 27, and west on Booth Road to North Law. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closure.
