Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that work to rehabilitate a bridge on Canal
Road will begin September 4, 2012. The bridge is located in Fairfield
Township on a dead end portion of Canal Road approximately 0.4
mile west of River Ridge Lane. The existing structure is a curved
metal arch built in 1913 and last rehabbed in 1971. The Engineer's
Office plans to fit a corrugated metal pipe arch structure underneath
the existing bridge. Once in place, a low-yield concrete will
be poured over the structure filling in the space between it
and the bottom of the existing bridge deck.
A construction contract
for the project was awarded to DDK Construction of Cincinnati
which submitted a low bid of $272,948. Funding will consist of
100 percent local BCEO money.
All work is scheduled
for completion by early November, weather permitting.
Since the bridge is
on a dead end portion of Canal Road, local traffic will be maintained
via a temporary run-around road next to the existing bridge.
No closings are planned.
