Fairfield Township

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that work to rehabilitate a bridge on Canal Road will begin September 4, 2012. The bridge is located in Fairfield Township on a dead end portion of Canal Road approximately 0.4 mile west of River Ridge Lane. The existing structure is a curved metal arch built in 1913 and last rehabbed in 1971. The Engineer's Office plans to fit a corrugated metal pipe arch structure underneath the existing bridge. Once in place, a low-yield concrete will be poured over the structure filling in the space between it and the bottom of the existing bridge deck.

A construction contract for the project was awarded to DDK Construction of Cincinnati which submitted a low bid of $272,948. Funding will consist of 100 percent local BCEO money.

All work is scheduled for completion by early November, weather permitting.

Maintenance of Traffic

Since the bridge is on a dead end portion of Canal Road, local traffic will be maintained via a temporary run-around road next to the existing bridge. No closings are planned.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this project.
