Road Closing October 1
Liberty Township

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that road improvements are coming to Millikin Road in Liberty Township beginning in two weeks. A one mile stretch between Liberty Fairfield Road and Ohio 747 will be wider and safer when the project is completed later this fall.

The project will widen the existing lanes from ten to twelve feet, add two-foot paved shoulders plus an additional two-foot earth berm, and reconstruct driveways and drainage to accommodate the pavement widening. "The existing road is narrow with little or no shoulder," Wilkens said. "With recent and coming development in the area, Millikin Road is carrying more and more traffic. This project will make it much safer for cars, buses, and trucks which share the roadway."

A construction contract has been awarded to the John R. Jurgensen Company of Cincinnati which submitted a low bid of $645,008. Funding will consist of 100 percent local BCEO money.

All work is scheduled for completion by mid-November, weather permitting.

Lots of Improvements in Liberty Township

Liberty Township has seen a number of road construction projects this year including a road improvement on Millikin Road last spring about a mile to the east. With that project, crews modified a section of Millikin between the north and south legs of LeSourdsville West Chester Road. Princeton Road was also recently improved at Alana Place; a roundabout was added at Kyles Station Road and LeSourdsville West Chester Road; Butler Warren Road is currently being widened along the township's eastern edge; and, on the western border Liberty Fairfield Road is slated for an upgrade beginning this fall as well.

Millikin Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

Millikin Road will close between Liberty Fairfield Road and Ohio 747 for the roadway improvement beginning Monday, October 1, 2012. The road is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of November 19, 2012.

During this closure, local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, school buses, and emergency vehicles, but detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour: Eastbound Millikin Road traffic will detour south on Liberty Fairfield Road, east on Princeton Road, and north on Ohio 747. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closure.
