Crews will begin construction
Monday on a new roundabout at the Kyles Station / Yankee Road
intersection, according to Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens.
This will mark the County's sixth modern roundabout as the trend
toward these safer intersection alternatives continues.
"We've had great
success with our previous roundabouts where they have significantly
reduced accident rates and improved efficiency," Wilkens
said. "Their popularity with the motoring public has grown
as well. Our experience has been that once drivers become accustomed
to modern roundabouts they genuinely like them and recognize
the safety benefits firsthand."
A construction contract
for the project was awarded to W.G. Stang, LLC. of Hamilton which
submitted a low bid of $609,922. State OPWC money will be utilized
to pay for about half the cost with the remaining amount consisting
of local BCEO match money and Liberty Township funds.
All work is scheduled
for completion by mid-August, weather permitting.
