Intersection Closing March 3 (Revised to March 10 due to snow)
Liberty Township

Another roundabout is coming to Butler County's Liberty Township. Beginning Monday, March 10, construction will get under way at the Millikin / Mauds Hughes Road intersection as crews install a single lane modern roundabout, the County's seventh, according to Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens.

"This intersection has experienced a higher than average accident rate in the past," he said. "We believe that a roundabout is the ideal solution given their proven success at reducing the incidence and severity of accidents and the public's growing acceptance of them." Wilkens pointed out that not only are drivers accepting the modern roundabouts that have been popping up throughout Butler County, but seem to be fully embracing them as safer alternatives at problematic intersections: "We've received a tremendous amount of positive feedback from drivers who, once they have experience with the roundabouts, realize and understand their benefits."

A construction contract for the project was awarded to W.G. Stang, LLC. of Hamilton which submitted a low bid of $569,367. State OPWC money will be utilized to pay for slightly less than half the cost with the remaining amount consisting of local BCEO match money and Liberty Township funds.

All work is scheduled for completion by mid-May, weather permitting.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

Update 2/27/14 -- Closing postponed from March 3 to March 10 due to predicted inclement weather. Possible winter storm early in the week and unseasonably cold temperatures persisting into the remainder of the week will prohibit construction.

All four legs of the Millikin / Mauds Hughes Road intersection will close beginning Monday, March 10, 2014 for the roundabout construction. The intersection is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of May 19, 2014, weather permitting.

During this closure, local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits, but motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour for Millikin Road: Eastbound Millikin Road traffic will detour south on Ohio 747, east on Princeton Road, north on Yankee Road, and west on Millikin. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.

Detour for Mauds Hughes Road: Northbound Mauds Hughes Road traffic will detour east on Princeton Road, north on Yankee Road, west on Kyles Station Road, and south on Mauds Hughes. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closure.
