Butler County Engineer
Greg Wilkens reports that Wayne Madison Road will close for roadway
improvements south and north of Howe Road beginning Monday, March
14, 2016. The project will widen the existing lanes to eleven
feet and add two-foot paved shoulders, improve the intersection
at Howe Road, and upgrade signage, pavement markings, storm sewers
and drainage. Additionally, four culverts will be replaced. The
project limits begin 2,200 feet south of Howe Road and extend
to 3,000 feet north of Howe for a total project length of approximately
5,200 linear feet.
Wayne Madison Road
is a township road straddling the Wayne / Madison Township line
and both townships have been involved in the planning, development,
and funding of this project. The Butler County Engineer's Office
coordinated project development, engineering, and utility relocations
and will oversee the construction phase as well.
A construction contract
has been awarded to Brumbaugh Construction, Inc. of Arcanum,
Ohio which submitted a low bid of $898,514. Funding for the project
will consist of State OPWC grant money as well as local funds
from Madison and Wayne Townships in the form of State OPWC 0-percent
All work is scheduled
for completion by mid-July, weather permitting.
and Maintenance of Traffic
Wayne Madison Road
will close south of Howe Road, between Howe and Dayspring Lane,
and north of Howe Road between Howe and Thomas Road beginning
Monday, March 14, 2016. The road is tentatively scheduled to
reopen the week of July 11, 2016.
During this closure,
local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, emergency
vehicles, and school buses but detours will be posted for all

Madison Road south of Howe Road:
Northbound Wayne Madison Road traffic will detour east on Ohio
73 in the City of Trenton, north on Miami Street North which
becomes Elk Creek Road in Madison Township, and west on Howe
Road. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.
Detour for Wayne
Madison Road north of Howe Road:
Northbound Wayne Madison Road traffic will detour west on Howe
Road, north on Jacksonburg Road, and east on Thomas Road. Southbound
traffic will reverse this route.
Note about Howe
Road will remain open through the intersection with the exception
of a five-day full closure of the entire intersection. The timing
of this five-day closure is expected to be toward the end of
the project in late June or early July. While Howe Road is open,
east-west traffic may pass through the intersection but only
local traffic will be allowed access to Wayne Madison Road.
Detour for Howe
Road during five-day closure:
Eastbound Howe Road traffic will detour south on Jacksonburg
Road, east on Ohio 73 into the City of Trenton, and north on
Miami Street North, which becomes Elk Creek Road in Madison Township,
to Howe Road. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
for local residents north of Howe Road: A major culvert replacement north of
Howe Road will require a full closure of Wayne Madison for approximately
two weeks. This full closure will go into effect immediately,
starting March 14, and reopen to local traffic only by March
25. The culvert is located between addresses #4570 and #4580.
During this culvert closure residents south of the culvert construction
should access their homes from the Howe Road side while residents
north of the culvert will approach from the Thomas Road side.
