Intersection Closing June 13
Liberty Township

Work begins June 13 at the Cincinnati Dayton Road / Kyles Station Road intersection that will ultimately involve construction of a new single-lane roundabout, according to Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens. But first an underground natural gas pipeline needs to be lowered, a process that will take about two months.

"This has been one of our more challenging projects because of the pipeline, which runs directly underneath the intersection," Wilkens said. "The requirement by Texas Gas, owner of the pipeline, that it be lowered prior to any road improvements made the project cost prohibitive for the Engineer's Office. We've spent the better part of a decade working to resolve the issue. After long term negotiations with Texas Gas we were able to come to reasonable terms and can now move forward with much needed safety improvements at this intersection."

Once the pipeline has been lowered crews will begin roundabout construction with completion slated for mid-November, weather permitting. This will mark the County's tenth modern roundabout as the BCEO continues its implementation of these increasingly popular and safer alternatives to problematic intersections. The project also includes curb, gutter, enhanced lighting, and storm sewers for improved drainage.

Texas Gas will fund the majority of and perform the pipeline relocation. Roundabout construction will be handled by W.G. Stang, LLC of Hamilton which submitted a low bid of $905,910. Funding for the roundabout project will consist of 100 percent BCEO money.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

All four legs of the Cincinnati Dayton Road / Kyles Station Road intersection will close beginning Monday, June 13, 2016 for the utility work and roundabout construction. The intersection is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of November 14, 2016.

During this closure, local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits, but motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone. Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour for Cincinnati Dayton Road: Northbound Cincinnati Dayton Road traffic will detour west on Millikin Road, north on Yankee Road, and east on Linn Road to Cincinnati Dayton. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

Detour for Kyles Station Road: Eastbound Kyles Station Road traffic will detour south on Yankee Road, east on Millikin Road, and north on Butler Warren Road to Kyles Station. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
