The Butler County Engineer's
Office reports that Yankee Road will close between Dutchland
Parkway and Maple Creek Drive beginning Monday, March 26, 2018
as the final construction phase of the Yankee Road widening gets
under way. Construction was suspended in mid-December for the
winter and the road was reopened to thru traffic.
Yankee Road will close
to thru and commuter traffic but access will be maintained for
local residents and businesses. Wilhelmina Drive will be closed
at Yankee Road necessitating that residents of Dutchland Woods
and adjoining subdivisions enter and exit via Dutchland Parkway
or Maple Creek Drive. Additionally, the north access drive to
the Lakota YMCA will be closed. YMCA access off of Yankee Road
will be via the south drive only.
Yankee Road detour
for thru and commuter traffic:
Northbound Yankee Road traffic will detour north on Cincinnati
Dayton Road and west on Princeton Road to Yankee. Southbound
traffic will reverse this route.
A significant roadway
improvement to Yankee Road from Dutchland Parkway to Princeton
Road was begun last July and is scheduled for completion by the
end of this May. Favorable weather last year enabled crews to
complete the first four construction phases with only the final
phase remaining for 2018. That will involve work primarily from
Maple Creek Drive south to Dutchland Parkway. For the winter
opening, a base and mid-course application of asphalt was laid
with temporary striping in place. Once Phase 5 is complete a
final surface course of asphalt will be applied to the entire
project with permanent lane striping, signing, and signals installed.
Specifically, the project
involves widening Yankee Road between Dutchland Parkway and Princeton
Road from two to three lanes --- one lane in each direction with
a dedicated center left turn lane; a modern roundabout constructed
at Yankee and Princeton Road; one bridge replacement and another
widened; plus, adjustments to the roadway's vertical profile.
Additionally, sidewalk will be added between Dutchland and Wyandot
Lane and the signals at Dutchland and Yankee will be upgraded.
A construction contract
for the project was awarded to Barrett Paving Materials, Inc.
of Middletown which submitted a low bid of $4,071,271. Funding
consists of Federal and State grant money plus local Butler County
Motorists are encouraged
