Drainage Improvements Also Coming To Millikin Road
Liberty Township

Butler County Engineer Greg Wilkens reports that construction will begin June 4 on the County's sixteenth modern roundabout. The intersection of Millikin Road and Yankee Road in Liberty Township will be upgraded with a single-lane roundabout including curb and gutter, lighting, and new storm sewers for improved drainage.

A second nearby project will take place concurrently. Efforts to improve storm drainage on Millikin Road near Jackie Drive are already under way and will continue into the first month of roundabout construction. The area has been prone to poor drainage during heavy rains with water sometimes overtopping the roadway. To correct the issue, crews will install storm conduit from the north side of Millikin down Jackie Drive to a nearby detention basin. Storm conduit will also be installed on the properties to the east of Jackie Drive and modifications will be made to the detention basin.

W.G. Stang, LLC of Hamilton was awarded the contracts for both projects, having submitted low bids of $686,169 for the roundabout and $980,279 for the drainage project. State OPWC funds, local BCEO match money and Liberty Township funds will be used for the roundabout project while funding for the drainage improvements is provided by the Butler County Storm Water District and Liberty Township.

All work is scheduled for completion by mid-August, weather permitting.

Road Closing and Maintenance of Traffic

Millikin Road, Jackie Drive, and Becky Drive will remain open for most of the drainage project's duration; however, a short five-day closure of Millikin east of Jackie will be necessary starting in June. Dates for this closure are currently unspecified but will be posted and the public and emergency services notified once the dates have been determined. During this closure, local access to Millikin Road east of Jackie Drive will be maintained from the Cincinnati Dayton Road side. Residents of Jackie Drive, Becky Drive, and Millikin Road west of Jackie will have temporary access through the roundabout at Millikin and Yankee while it's under construction. No other motorists will be permitted however. Once Millikin reopens east of Jackie Drive local residents will revert to using this section of Millikin until roundabout construction is complete.

For the roundabout construction, all four legs of the Millikin Road / Yankee Road intersection will close beginning Monday, June 4, 2018. The intersection is tentatively scheduled to reopen the week of August 13, 2018.

During this closure local access will be maintained for residents, businesses, and emergency vehicles up to the project limits, but motorists will not be permitted to pass through the actual construction zone (with the exception of local residents during the five-day Millikin Road closure). Detours will be posted for all thru traffic.

Detour for Millikin Road: Eastbound Millikin Road traffic will detour north on Mauds Hughes Road, east on Kyles Station Road, and south on Cincinnati Dayton Road to Millikin. Westbound traffic will reverse this route.
Detour for Yankee Road: Northbound Yankee Road traffic will detour east on Princeton Road, north on Cincinnati Dayton Road, and west on Kyles Station Road to Yankee. Southbound traffic will reverse this route.

Motorists are encouraged to check the Road Closings page here on the BCEO web site as the best source for possible date and status changes concerning this closure.
