TOWNSHIP PROJECT UPDATE
Beckett Road closes
Tylersville Road at
LeSourdsville West Chester Road One-lane Closures
Butler County Engineer Dean
C. Foster reports that improvements will begin on Beckett Road
just south of Tylersville Road beginning Monday, March 31, 1997.
The road will be closed to through traffic between Tylersville
Road and Smith Road while a culvert is replaced and vertical
adjustments are made to the roadway. Traffic will be detoured
onto State Route 747 during the closure. The road is expected
to reopen the week of May 5, but widening of the existing lanes
and berms will continue until mid-June.
The contract for the project
was awarded to W.G. Stang, Inc. of Hamilton, which submitted
a low bid of $192,976. This is the final phase of a three-part
project to improve Beckett Road between Tylersville and Smith
Roads. Phase one of the project consisted of a complete reconstruction
of the intersection at Tylersville, including the addition of
turn lanes and signals. Phase two included two bridge replacements
and widening and repaving the roadway north of Smith Road.
Tylersville Road At
Kennesaw Drive Set For Late Summer
Due to the massive number
and complexity of utility relocations associated with this project,
actual construction has been rescheduled for 1998, including
full closure of the intersection. However, there will be plenty
of activity at the intersection this year.
Beginning Monday, March 24
crews will install new water lines across Tylersville Road and
LeSourdsville West Chester Road. This will result in occasional
one-lane closures for approximately one month. At least one lane
of traffic will be maintained at all times by flaggers.
Demolition of three buildings
at the intersection is scheduled to begin in July, followed by
additional telephone, gas, electric, and cable relocations. A
large gas main will have to be lowered resulting in a possible
closure of Tylersville Road for approximately one week in October.
Upon completion of all utility
work, actual reconstruction of the intersection will begin in
March 1998. This will result in a full closure of the entire
intersection. The project includes improvements to the horizontal
and vertical alignments (cutting down the intersection five to
ten feet and realigning the approaches), plus adding turn lanes
on all four approaches and signals.
This project is actually
part of the same contract as Tylersville at LeSourdsville West
Chester, but is much less complex than its sister project a half
mile to the west. Numerous utility relocations will take place
beginning April 1 with construction set to begin in August.
Left turn lanes will be added
to Tylersville Road and signals will be installed. Removal of
a small knob west of the intersection will likely result in a
one to two week closure of Tylersville Road in August or September.
Work is expected to be completed by early October.
The estimated construction
cost for both intersection projects is $1.4 million. The Butler
County Engineer's Office leveraged State Issue 2 money to help
fund 80 to 90 percent of these projects. BCEO revenues will provide
the required local match.
