BCEO READIES FOR WINTER WITH ANNUAL
SNOW PLOW ROADEO

Butler County Engineer Dean C. Foster reports that the BCEO is gearing up for the winter of 1997-98 with its annual Snow Plow ROADEO. The event will follow last year's expanded three-day format.

Dates: October 8 - 10, 1997
Time: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Butler County Engineer's Office

Drivers from snow and ice control teams at the Engineer's Office and the various Butler County townships will compete in an obstacle course designed to simulate winter conditions. BCEO crews will also receive expanded safety training. Among the many topics to be covered: plow blade replacement, calcium fill procedure with gloves and mask, tire chain utilization, and emergency procedures for a stuck vehicle or an accident. All drivers will be required to perform a detailed truck safety inspection, drive their actual assigned routes, and display an overall improvement in their ROADEO scores.

Members of the media are welcome to attend at any time to observe, speak firsthand with the snow plow drivers, or to view the BCEO's new weather monitoring system. Additionally, those who would like to drive a snow plow through the simulation obstacle course are invited to do so on the morning of Thursday, October 9 between 8:00 and 11:30. To participate in the course, please contact Chris Petrocy at the BCEO to schedule a time.
