Butler County Engineer Dean C. Foster reports that Tylersville Road in Union Township will reopen at LeSourdsville West Chester Road by late next week. Construction at the intersection will continue on the LeSourdsville West Chester approaches, which will likely reopen one to two weeks later.

The project has been on schedule with the help of cooperative weather through May. The sub-grade and curb are now in place, but persistent heavy rains during the past week have hampered final paving efforts.

Significant improvements to the intersection will make it much safer when it is reopened. The intersection has been cut down five feet, the approaches realigned, and turn lanes added. Signals will also be installed by the end of the summer.

The Tylersville / LeSourdsville West Chester project is actually the major portion of a contract that also included improvements to the Tylersville Road at Kennesaw Drive intersection a half mile to the east. That project, completed last year, involved the addition of turn lanes on Tylersville, the installation of traffic signals, and removal of a small knob just west of the intersection.

The construction contract for both projects was awarded to Ft. Defiance Construction Company of Ft. Defiance, Ohio, which submitted a low bid of $1,398,910. The Butler County Engineer's Office leveraged State Issue 2 money to help fund 80 to 90 percent of the cost with BCEO revenues providiong the required local match.
